Assoc. Prof. MMag.a Dr Barbara C. Steininger
Barbara Steininger has been an Associate Professor at the University of Graz since 2020 and Head of the Centre for European Private Law since October 2023.
Short CV
Barbara Steininger studied law and Dutch studies in Vienna and Leiden. She was a research assistant at the Institute for Roman Law and Ancient Legal History at the University of Vienna, but then shifted her focus to applicable law and worked as a research assistant at the European Centre of Tort and Insurance Law (ECTIL) in Vienna, at the Austrian Academy of Sciences and at the University of Geneva.
In 2013, she moved to the University of Graz, where she habilitated in 2020 with a comparative law thesis on instructions. In her work, it has always been important to her to look at Austrian law from a broader - especially international - perspective and to bring the advantages that such a change of perspective brings to research and teaching. Her academic focus is on tort law, general law of obligations, family law and comparative law.
Since 2020, Barbara Steininger has been an Associate Professor at the University of Graz and Vice Director of the European Centre of Tort and Insurance Law in Vienna. In October 2023, she became Head of the Centre for European Private Law at the University of Graz and Vice Director of the Institute for European Tort Law of the Austrian Academy of Sciences and the University of Graz. She is co-editor of the European Tort Law Yearbook and co-editor of the Graz Law Working Paper Series.
