23rd Annual Conference on European Tort Law

The 23rd Annual Conference on European Tort Law provides a unique opportunity for both practitioners and academics to discover the most significant tort law developments from across Europe in 2023.

Experts from each of the many jurisdictions present selected highlights from their contributions to the European Tort Law Yearbook, an annual volume which provides a comprehensive overview of legislative and judicial developments in tort law throughout Europe during the preceding year. (The Yearbook ‘European Tort Law 2023’ will be published in autumn 2024.)

The national reports are followed by an overview of EU law developments and a comparative, concluding summary, which critically assesses the most important trends and issues to emerge. A special session is dedicated to the topic of "Product Liability". After an outline of the new product liability regime by Bernhard A Koch (Innsbruck), Zoé Jacquemin (Toulouse) will deal with discovery, the burden of proof, and presumptions and Michael Faure (Maastricht) will provide an economic analysis. Finally, Gerhard Wagner (Berlin) will present a general assessment of the new regime.

The results of this special session will be published in a special issue of the Journal of European Tort Law.

The Conference is hosted by Institute for European Tort Law (ETL) of the Austrian Academy of Sciences and the University of Graz.
Faculty members of REWI Uni Graz are cordially invited by the Institute and co-organizer Barbara Steininger to participate in the Conference free of charge.
